Hi readers, you look nice today.
Each week, we send you a report on the best art and culture events happening in and around New York City. But we’ve heard from some of you that you’d like a little guidance on what to do with all that intel. What if you only have one free night? How do you pick what’s best and turn, say, a gallery hop into a proper night out, with great art and cocktails and a chance to make friends?
And so: we’re bringing you something new at Days & Nights. We call it THE EVENING. It’s a simple itinerary for one great night out, and we’re kicking it off in person next week.
Come hang out if you want to meet us and other Days & Nights readers—we’ve already assembled an A+ crew. Or, use it as a guide to do your own thing with your own friends or your perfect self (read our love letter to solo dates here.)
Let us know what you think, and we’ll turn this into a regular series if y’all are into it.
Without a single further ado, we present:
The Evening: an itinerary for May 1
1. Andy Woll and Aaron Zulpo openings at 1969 Gallery
Andy Woll is the great horse painter of our generation, and Aaron Zulpo consistently makes the case for landscapes. Both artists have shows opening at the wonderful 1969 Gallery in Tribeca. We’re grateful for this extraordinary two-for-one opening, which runs from 6-8p.

2. Drinks in the basement at Au Cheval to talk about the art
Head to Au Cheval, a quick walk from the gallery, for post-art drinks in the basement. Au Cheval’s basement bar is reservation-free, making it a great candidate to swing by whenever you’re done looking at paintings. We’ll be here by 7:30p, btw, but you do you on whatever schedule feels right.

After that? Go where the night takes you— to another bar, to bed, yours or someone else’s, to an art fair-related party. The night’s as old or young as you want it to be.
