125 Years of the Bronx Zoo at The Explorer’s Club
Zoo director Jim Breheny talks about the 125-year-old institution at the stupidly gorgeous Explorer’s Club tonight. Good luck convincing us those animals aren’t prisoners, buddy.
The Explorer’s Club, Upper East Side
Mon at 6p
The Power Broker at Fifty at the NY Historical Society
The Power Broker, the giant Robert Moses tome about how absolutely bananas men can be, is having a moment everywhere because it was published 50 years ago. Of all the Caro talks, this one seems coolest because of its location (the New York Historical Society) and its moderator (the non-bananas man, Roman Mars). The in-person show is sold out but you can register for virtual access to hear author Robert Caro in conversation with Elliott Kalan and Mars.
The New York Historical Society, in-person sold out; virtual tickets still available)

Birding in Peace at Greenwood
Birds, trees, and dead people are pretty good company for a calm, quiet morning. In this series, the cemetery opens early for bird enthusiasts, and local birding expert Rob Jett leads attendees through a peaceful early morning walking tour. In the context of a graveyard, “Birding in Peace” almost sounds like a threat—like it’s the last thing you’ll ever do before someone murders you. But honestly we can’t think of a better way to go.
Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood Heights
Wed from 7-8:30a 🌳
Book launch for Robin F. Williams: We’ve Been Expecting You at PPOW

BLKDOG performances kick off at Joyce Theater
Botis Seva choreographs London dance troupe Far From The Norm in BLKDOG, “an emotionally charged hip-hop dance performance that reveals the vicious connection between self-discovery and self-destruction.” In it, “hyper-physical movement propels audiences through a chilling landscape of the inner psyche” and boy can we relate. Tickets are still available for some of the shows running between Wednesday and Sunday this week.
Joyce Theater, Chelsea

Lynsey Addario’s RAW (curated by Danny Moynihan) opening reception at Lyles & King
Lynsey Addario is “an American photojournalist, who has been covering conflict, humanitarian crises, and women’s issues around the Middle East and Africa on assignment for The New York Times and National Geographic for more than two decades.” This powerful show brings her “non art world” work to the art world where it deserves all the eyeballs it’ll get.
The show comes to life through the clever, accomplished, multidisciplinary eye of the curator, writer, artist, and Friend of the List Danny Moynihan (one of the greatest people we met at Giorno Poetry Systems’ 222 Tuesdays a few months back). We can’t wait to see this show.

Last weekend of Printed Matter on St. Mark’s Place
Printed Matter’s East Village location on St. Mark’s, brought to life through a collaboration with the Swiss Institute, had a lovely six year run. Not all good things can last forever, and indeed this is the end of the road for Printed Matter’s East Village iteration. Visit it one last time this weekend before it closes for good on Monday. After that, thank goodness we still have the Chelsea location.

Straightiolab live at The Bell House
Hootie-hoo, glamor girls! George and Sam of StraightioLab, a podcast both brilliant and dumb (just like us!), take over the Bell House to adapt the show for the stage. The guest lineup is always killer. The experience is considered, so you’re not just watching people record a podcast conversation live. Tickets are available as of the time of publication, but heads up that they’ll sell out.
